Thomas Albert Maxwell, Jr.

Thomas Albert Maxwell Jr, 87, of Everett, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 20, 2023, in Everett.


Tom was born in Jacksonville, Florida on September 11, 1935, to Thomas Maxwell and Johnnie Belle Maxwell. He grew up in Orlando and Cocoa, Florida and graduated from Cocoa High School in 1954. He met his future wife, Mary Nell Zimmerley, when he crashed her 16th birthday party, and the couple was married on June 21, 1957. They had two children. He attended The Citadel and served in the Florida Army National Guard. His unit was activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In May, 1969, the family moved from Cocoa to western Washington, living in Lynnwood and Marysville before moving to Mukilteo. Tom worked for Boeing at Cape Canaveral on the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs, and moved with Boeing to Everett to work on the 747 program. He retired after 35 years at Boeing.


Tom enjoyed sailing, mountaineering, hiking, camping, and traveling with Mary in their RV. He also was a handyman who remodeled most of their Mukilteo home. After 40 years in Mukilteo, he moved to Washington Oakes in Everett, where he passed away.


Tom is survived by his two children, Tom III (Mary) and Linda (Brian Lee); his grandchildren Nathan (Brittany), Andrea (Tom), John (Brittany), Rebekah and Rachel; his ten great-grandchildren; and his sisters Sylvia and Joy, both in the Atlanta, Georgia area.


A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 27th at the Grand Army of the Republic cemetery in Snohomish at 1:00 pm. There will be a casual celebration of Tom’s life at Washington Oakes, 1717 Rockefeller Ave in Everett on Tuesday, March 28th, from 4:30 – 6:30. Arrangements are being handled by Solie Funeral Home in Everett.
