Philip was a trusting person with a whimsical sense of humor. He loved talking with family, friends, and passersby who took the time to engage with him. His conversations ranged from shared memories and the day’s activities to whatever he thought might make someone laugh.

Summer Memories in Maine

As our family moved away from Maine and lived in different places around the country, Philip looked forward to returning each summer. He loved playing at the beach or the lake, sleeping on the summer porch, exploring ocean rocks at low tide to discover tide pools or gather a bucket of mussels, and riding his bike to the candy store to satisfy his sweet tooth.

Navigating Life

Life—and its social norms—was not always easy for Philip to navigate. Although we all struggled at times to meet mainstream expectations, he experienced recurring misunderstandings and moments of awkwardness. His trusting nature and vulnerability sometimes made it easy for others to take advantage of the very qualities that made him engaging and open to connection.

A Sudden Loss

Philip is gone from us now—suddenly and far too soon. We did not have the chance to say all the words that would have affirmed our love, nor will we have one more earthly visit to share the sights and sounds of the places where it all began. We grieve that loss deeply.

Rest, Dear Brother

Rest now, dear brother. You fought the good fight well. Know that you are loved and that we will always hold you in our hearts. Soon, we will bring you home to rejoin our mother and the family members who went before you and welcomed you into their eternal fold. We will remember you deeply and fondly, because you belong to us, and we belong to one another.
