Joanne Elizabeth Tweit

Our beloved Joanne lost her battle with cancer the morning of July 6th, 2026.

Joanne Elizabeth Tweit was born on September 10,1964 at Toppenish, WA and grew up on a 30 acre fruit orchard outside of Wapato in Central WA.

She Lived in St Johns, Newfoundland, Hawaii, Baker City, Oregon and settled in Longview, WA

She was fiercely independent and could do just about anything she put her mind to including

rockhounding, rock painting, beachcombing, crocheting, gourd carving, bubble blowing, water color, hula hoops, acrylic pour, gardening, and working on her own cars.

She loved animals, bringing in injured birds as a kid and taking her pet rabbit for walks in the orchard. She loved ladybugs, collecting them by the jar full and releasing them all at once. As an adult, over the years she lived with 2 Maine Coon cats, several ferrets, and is leaving behind her beloved Siamese cat Kiki.

She loved people, but didn’t put up with bullies, standing up for herself and defending anyone who needed it, including her big sister.

Her proudest accomplishment was her 30 years of sobriety. To quote Joanne, “On 5-13-96 I made a choice that changed my whole life. Today because of that choice I have a life.” In the midst of her sobriety, she supported many people in their recovery journeys.

She is survived by her sister, Judy Hastings (Mark), niece Liz Hastings (Steve), nephew Jacob Hastings (Paula) and her mother, Betty Tweit.

There will not be an official memorial service, but a gathering of her friends in Longview to celebrate her life at a time not yet determined.
