Jim was born to Wilie and Ella Mae Gluth in Portland Oregon on October 8th, 1943. He and his family moved to Port Angeles shortly thereafter where he grew up and graduated from PA high school in 1963. He then joined the US Marines and became a part of the Recon Raiders. He was blessed with his daughter, Laurie while still in the service and his other two daughters, Holly and Renee after he returned home. After being discharged from the service, he worked at Penn-ply Mill and after injuring his wrist, he opened his own cafe. He ended up closing the cafe due to another wrist operation. He then went to work for Denny's for about ten years both cooking and troubleshooting. After leaving Denny's he cooked at various other area restaurants as well. He also worked in the construction field. Jim enjoyed fishing, watching football games and boxing as well as gardening. One of Jim's favorite hobbies was collecting Hot Wheels.
