Idar Alvin Fjarlie

December 1, 1933 – August 9, 2026

Idar Alvin Fjarlie, age 92, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026. Born on December 1, 1933, in Watford City, North Dakota, to Halver and Marie Fjarlie, Idar grew up with a deep affection for his Midwestern roots, often sharing fond stories of his childhood and the North Dakota countryside throughout his life.

Idar spent his career as a skilled sawyer, retiring after many dedicated years with Weyerhaeuser. His passion for woodworking and craftsmanship extended well into his retirement; he took great pride in his large workshop, where he constructed a hand-built sawmill. Idar was an avid collector of antiques, spent time volunteering with the La Conner Sunrise Food Bank, and served his community as a Snohomish County election poll worker.

Proud of his Norwegian heritage, Idar embraced Norwegian culture and loved spending time with family and friends. He was a natural storyteller, held a lifelong affection for animals, and cherished every opportunity to gather with loved ones.

Idar was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Sue Fjarlie, and stepson Scott Handy. He is survived by his daughters, Eleanor Borg (Dan) and Sylvia Fjarlie; stepchildren, Mark Handy (Kara) and Sarah Handy; as well as extended family, grandchildren, and friends who will miss his warmth, stories, and generous spirit
