G. (Gus) Lindsey III, Esq. passed away unexpectedly on August 16, 2024 at age 59. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, cousin, uncle, coach, mentor, attorney, community member and friend. He was a very private person, but those who knew him, knew. Gus was known for his strength and great sense of humor. He will live on in the hearts of many people that he has met through his lifetime.
Gus Lindsey III was born in Macon, Georgia to Gus Lindsey Jr. and Barbara (Mills). His grandfather, the late Reverend JL Mills Sr. was a huge influence in his formative years. Gus attended high school at Southwest DeKalb and then earned his degrees at Southern Polytechnic. Gus worked for IBM and then Boeing Georgia. He learned of an opportunity with Boeing and made his way to the Pacific Northwest in the early nineties. About a year after arriving there, he met Kim. They were together for 7 years when Gus proposed during a Basketball tournament that he was coaching in Reno, and the couple decided to get married in Las Vegas in 2000. Gus went to the Seattle University of Law while still working full time at Boeing. He graduated, passed the bar, left Boeing and worked briefly at Davis Wright Tremaine. Another opportunity with Boeing that was too good to pass up presented itself and Gus went back to work there. Gus and Kim became proud parents of their son, LG in 2007. Feeling unfulfilled with the corporate world and wanting to utilize his law degree to help people, Gus took a leap and opened his own office, GBL3 Law in 2012. This was his greatest career accomplishment. Gus loved being his own boss and was passionate about helping his clients.
Gus loved basketball. Over the years he coached a couple of his own AAU teams, was the JV coach at Mariner High School for a bit, and was sad to leave to pursue his career goals. When his son started playing basketball in the 8th grade, he became a spectator, proud dad, and a behind the scenes coach emphasizing his defense philosophy to LG. Gus just recently started looking at some opportunities to get back into coaching.
Gus loved cooking and was known for his barbecue. He could be found out by his grill or smoker on all holidays and almost every Sunday, rain or shine.
Gus loved history and ancestry. He loved to research, find articles, documents, and family trees, anything that could look into the past. He did research for his own family, Kim’s family, and several friends that had asked for help.
Gus loved music. He had a diverse collection of music and could often be seen with headphones on and mouthing the words to whatever he was listening to. When he was heard singing we would roll our eyes and he would say, “What? You do know I used to sing in a choir!” He also liked to TRY and play his keyboard and trumpet.
Gus was known for his sense of style. He loved suits, shoes, hats, cologne, watches, and a little bit of bling. On his casual days he could be seen in Georgia Bulldogs gear. He was a huge fan of Georgia Football and rarely missed a game on TV. He also enjoyed watching several NFL teams, Formula one racing, Finding your Roots, History Channel shows, and Antiques Roadshow, just to name a few.
Gus is preceded in death by these influential people in his life, Grandfather Reverend JL Mills Sr., Grandmother Ernestine Bailey Mills, Father Gus Lindsey Jr., Cousin Larry “Beaver” Turner, SIL Joanna Summerow, and Uncle Jimmy Mills Jr.
