Betty was born to Jacob and Lydia Herrmann in Olympia, WA on July 20th, 1933. Her birth father died when Betty was 3 years old. Her mother later remarried in 1936 to Christian Albrecht. The only father Betty ever knew. Later making them a family of 6 boys and 2 girls. Sunday school and church were important to her and she came to know the lord at an early age. In fifth grade her family moved to a larger dairy farm. At 13 years old Betty got her first real job at a cafe/ ice cream parlor, working after school and weekends.
In 1948 Betty, her parents, and three younger brothers moved to Sunnyside, WA. Betty and her brothers cut asparagus before school. Betty's next job was a carhop at the local drive-in, until she graduated in 1951 from Sunnyside High School. After graduation Betty was ready for a new challenge, she decided to move to the big city of Seattle and look for work. She found a job the first day out with Pacific Telephone and Telegraph, in the chief Engineers Department. She worked in the file room learning to read blueprints of all the offices in the Pacific Northwest. It was a trusting job for a young farm kid but she was smart and did a good job! The end of June in 51, Betty went home to visit her parents and stopped at a local gas station where a friend worked. He introduced her to Burl, who was home on leave from the Navy. They began writing to each other until he was discharged in August 1952; two months later they married on October 31st, 1952. They were married for 65 years. They lived in Seattle until their first son was born. They later settled in Alderwood Manor and raised their 4 children. They lived on the same street for 37 years. Throughout the years Betty was home raising their children, she joined Snohomish County Extension Homemakers (Adult Education Organization for Women.) They met once a month for years. At one point Betty was County President when Snohomish County had over 400 members. She also served as County Treasurer for many years making many lifelong friends. Betty was a woman of many talents; she could do anything she put her mind to. During all her endeavors, she worked part time at Elna's Fabric Store, later working full time at Zieldorfs Sewing Center, teaching sewing, knitting, crocheting, and tailoring. She also taught Sunday school, vacation bible school, cub scout leader, bluebird leader, all the while running kids to school activities and programs. Betty also opened a gift shop (Creative Gift Boutique) that she ran for 4 years. Betty, Burl, and family also built a cabin in Packwood, WA. They had many gatherings with family and friends over the years. After retirement, they moved to the cabin. Later moving back and settled in Darrington, WA. Betty and Burl both enjoyed woodworking together, helping out at the community center and senior center. Betty enjoyed going to all the grandkids games, programs, and school BBQ's. Betty loved spending time with family. She always went above and beyond to make our get-togethers memorable. She was the glue of our family. always willing to lend a hand where needed. She was one of the most giving, honest, kind, loving souls I have ever known, and I am proud to have called her my mom. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Burl Wehrli, daughter Marshann Wehrli, and grandson Scott Allen Dice. She is survived by sons Rick Wehrli, Rolly Wehrli (Diana Wehrli), daughter Melanie Dunn (Tim Dunn), 9 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
